Discussion of the Month...

May already...What ever happened to April? Time waits for no man or woman. I read a quote from American author, Jack London that expresses a good rule to follow in living life. He says that life was meant to be experienced fully, to be enjoyed and lived to the fullest extent. That really hit a nerve with me. Many times I seem to be satisfied by living life in my simple way, not expecting too much, not giving too much and being relieved to live right below the radar, so not to "ruffle" feathers, so to speak. At my age, I prefer to be seen and not heard. That is sometimes easier said than done for me. Nonetheless, I guess I should start making a statement with my life. No, I don't think that is the real message of Jack London's quote for me. I think one lives his or her life as he or she thinks best. Sometimes the most quiet life speaks loader than all the noise possible. A quiet, unassuming life may hold more value to the individual than a boisterous one. I guess it boils down to the individual and his or her priorities. Life is to be enjoyed. Enjoyed in your own special way.

May brings a sad, a happy and a little envious emotion in my life. My work colleague and guidance director has retired. After 44 years of working in education, she has decided to retire. A little sad for me because she was one of the best guidance directors that I have ever experienced. She loved her job. No, not the political, complicated and paper work kind of a job that education and guidance has evolved, but the school experience and the relationships that she made through out her life. She knew her job and she did it. I'm sad because I won't be seeing that smiling face when I enter the guidance office. She was usually at her desk when I arrived to school and there, still working when I departed. We will all miss her. I am happy for her. She deserves to be free of the hassles of live as a public school counselor. It's time to move on to another stage in her life. She will enjoy her retirement I'm sure. I have to confess, I'm a little envious of her, too. To not have to get up every morning at 5:10 a.m. would be enough in itself, but to have the days, weeks, months and years to 0neself would be heaven. She has made it. She deserves it. And she will enjoy it to the fullest. That is the kind of person that my guidance director is and has been all of her live. Good-by my friend. Thank you for everything that your have taught me. I will miss you - especially your infectious smile, hearty laugh and genuine friendship.

The torch has been passed, so to speak and it has been passed to the ideal person. Another of my colleagues will assume the role as guidance director at my school. She is a very competent, highly effective and very personable person. We have worked together for a number of years and the department and school are very fortunate to have her in that position. She will do a great job as guidance director. I am fortunate to have another good friend as my supervisor.

Life goes on, and on and on. Do you ever think about that concept? We live life, plan for the future, but we never really know exactly what it will be like or how we will feel about it until it happens. We think that we know what we are doing in life, but we really don't know the eventual outcome until it happens. The day may drag on and on, but tomorrow will come so fast and we usually are not ready for it. I guess I need to review Jack London's message about living life to it's fullest each and every day.

May is a beautiful month. As I've said in other newsletters, May is the Month of our Mother, it's the month of the Blessed Mother, Mary the Mother of God. And out mother, too. You can take the boy out of his Catholic school, but you can't take the Catholic school out of the boy. If you are regular reader of this newsletter, you know about my views regarding my church, the Roman Catholic Church, and boys in Rome. Yes, I am a critic of the human operation of the church, but not of the divine concepts of it's formation and development. I remain unconditionally dedicated to the Blessed Mother. I believe that through her intersession I am what I am today. Even the Beatles sang about the Mary.

"When I find myself in times of trouble Mother Mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom Let it be.
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me Speaking words of wisdom. Let it be."
-The Beatles

Next month, June, is the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, so get ready. They are two of my favorite months of the year.

May is also the month that my own mother died, May 30, to be exact. It will be eleven years this year. In a way it seems like just yesterday and in another way it seems like a thousand years ago. Perhaps you may be interested in perusing the mother's day site that I made for her a few years ago, Mother's Day! Happy Mother's Day! This Page Is Dedicated To My Mom, Betty Jane stabile

By the way, I've added a new search option to my site. It can be found on the index and most newsletters. Search James Stabile Informational Blog is the link to the search page. I think it is a very effective and user friendly search option. Enter a word or words in the search box, click "search" and pages containing that word or words will come up. To specify a particular phrase of words, add quotes before and after the phrase and specific pages will come up. I think the spidering of links is unbelievable. Use the customary search query language.
