Politics...
In May, First Lady Laura Bush visited the mid-east. She proved to be a very effective American representative. She was welcomed by most people, however, she did encounter some angry protestors. I think she represented the American government in a very effective and appropriate manner. During the trip she proved that she was her own person. She spoke her own mind on at least two very distinct occasions. She veered from the usual White House script saying that the president should have been informed about the private airplane's misguided approach into the Capital's airspace. In another instance she made the comment that Newsweek should not have taken the full blame for the erroneous report of the disrespectful behavior of the American military towards the Koran on the American base in Cuba. What a breath of fresh air. I don't always agree with the First Lady's politics, but I do in these two instances.
Speaking of the administration, what is going on there anyway? Is President Bush and the Conservative Right of the Republican Party trying to make our democracy a totalitarian state? Do they not see the fact that some day the Republicans will be the minority party in congress. Some day the democrats will take back the White House and the congress and the Republicans will be the minority party in Washington. When that day comes, don't the Republicans want some say in what happens in the governing process? Then why is the President and the Republican congress so eager to abandon the filibuster provision in the Senate? I do not understand. The minority party, Democrat or Republican, must have a say in the decisions that affect our government and citizens.
The 14 Democrats and Republicans who made that historic compromise are true American heroes. They have saved the integrity of the United States Senate. Thank God for these strong, independent, compassionate and constitutional thinkers. They have saved the American Government from a gross mistake. I've said it before, the United States is a Republic, not a true Democracy. In the United States of America the minority party has a say in the operations of government. The rights of the minority are protected. The majority rules, but not at the expense of the minority. This fact was paramount in the minds of the framers of the Constitution. We must respect their intentions.
I feel the ultra conservative right may be the antichrist. Remember the Carter administration? There was a feeling that President Jimmy Carter was the antichrist. Well, he wasn't. I feel that the ultra conservative moral majority may be the antichrist in this situation. There's a lot of speculation these days that the end is near. Remember one of the signs of the end - false prophets, maybe the conservative right? President Bush is their instrument of deceit and self-righteousness. How can the conservative right's gospel of hate, disrespect and abuse be congruent to the gospel of Jesus Christ, who is Love? False prophets - you betcha.
Of course, the above paragraph is totally this writer's individual opinion and in no way meant to be an attack on the conservative moral majority, the conservative extreme right. He leaves that duty to God the father. It is just his opinion and food for thought and discussion.
