July 2005, already. Don't get
up too late in the morning or you may miss a day. That's how it seems to
me anymore. I don't know why, but time seems to go even faster during the
summertime. I should say during my summertime, my summer vacation from
work, the time goes in sonic booms. I get up in the morning, whenever I
wake up. I've set the alarm one time so far since June 3 and that was as a
precaution so I wouldn't miss my Cat Scan scheduled for 8:00 a.m. As it
turned out, even on that day I awoke on my own terms, well before the alarm
went off. As I age it seems like, I gain more control over my biological
clock. Yes, I know, I'm off on a tangent, again. Back to getting up in the
morning during summer vacation, I get up anywhere from 5:30 to 9:00 a.m.,
depending on my whims for the day. After I get up, check my e-mail,
exercise, shower and dress I usually, 99.9% of the time, go
out for breakfast. Most of the time it's coffee, the morning Sun-Sentinel and a bagel. Saturdays are usually reserved for a mightier breakfast
at my favorite IHOP or other such breakfast restaurant. To me a day
without breakfast out among God's creation would seem like a day without
orange juice and the sun...more Entertainment
Crash was a great movie. I don't
think that it will win any awards or be a big viewer pull, but it was very
interesting. It was about prejudice and discrimination. The movie starts
with a automobile crash, then other non-related situations occurred
introducing the main characters. The movie chronicled the lives of these
individuals. The common thread in these people's lives was prejudice, all
types of prejudice. The movie was so depressing. It was so true to life,
but so depressing because the message was so true. The audience at the
matinee that I attended was a little bigger than usual for a matinee, but
it was a Saturday afternoon. Probably about 30 people were in attendance,
many older people, but a representative ethnic mix of people. The movie
was serious in nature, however, the audience laughed at some of the
situations and dialogue. They didn't laugh out of disrespect, but because
the situations were so real and seeing them portrayed on the screen showed
the absurdity of that kind of behavior. The ending was excellent. I won't
divulge the ending, but being a fiscal conservative and a liberal social
thinking person, I was extremely pleased with the ending. I won't see it
again, but I may buy the DVD when it is released. It could be used for
sensitivity sessions for many...more

I don't usually tackle pet
health and safety but I read an interest article in the Sun-Sentinel (May
24, 2005) about pet safety in the summer. The article offered a few
suggestions and I've included some of my comments. I couldn't help
relating much of what was said about pets to children, too:
-
Never leave pets in parked car
on a hot day. The same goes for children. Heat and humidity can't tell
the difference between a pet or a child. We have all heard tragic
stories about the consequences of a child or a pet being left in a
parked car on a hot humid day.
-
Avoid taking a dog for a ride
in the back of a pick-up truck. Debris flying, dog can be bounced out of
truck. I've heard about this since forever...more

The 2006 election year should be a
very interesting year. Will it be the year that the Democrats make significant
gains in the United Sates congress and governor races? President Bush's
popularity is at an all time low. Americans are losing interest in him and in
his unpopular stand on the issues affecting the economy, social security and the
war in Iraq. Sooner or later the pendulum will swing to the left, so to speak.
It's inevitable. Will 2006 be the year? The senatorial race in Florida
should be exciting. Of course current Democratic senator Bill Nelson will
seek to retain his seat in the Senate. He should be unopposed in the
Democratic Primary, in any case, sure to win the primary. He is a moderate
Democrat. I believe he has a better than average chance of retaining his
seat...more

Archbishop Edward A McCarthy,
former Archbishop of the Miami Diocese has been laid to rest. The
archbishop was a soft-spoken, thoughtful, personable and genuine person.
He accomplished much during his term as Archbishop of the Diocese of Miami. I
never had the opportunity to familiarize myself with the ministry of this
shepherd of soul's, but what I have read and heard about him over the last few
weeks suggests that he seemed to be a righteous follower of Christ and a empathetic
leader of his flock. He was loved and admired by many. May he rest in
peace...more Technology

The biggest security breach in
the protection of people's private, personal financial information has occurred.
Master Card has announced that millions of consumers' credit card numbers,
expiration dates and names of banks have been stolen by computer hackers.
Hackers managed to release a virus into the computers of CardSystems
Solutions, Inc. The personal information was
harvested by the computer hacker when customers' credit cards were being scanned
for transactional approval by CardSystems before the company sent the
transactional information to the appropriate credit card banks. Master card was
the first credit card company to announce the violation, but there were others including VISA,
Discover Card and American Express...more

Michael Jackson is in debt, by
millions of dollars. In the 1980's he made millions a year as the King
of Pop. Currently, he can not even meet his payroll obligations for
his farm Neverland. I think that this is too much. Celebrities need
to readjust their priorities. I feel no empathy for this strange person.
What about the legitimate poor and homeless in the United States and the
world? These are the people who have my empathy...more
