Health, Fitness and Lifestyle...

The holidays are over. Many people have one big souvenir to remember the holidays - the five to ten pounds that they gained from Thanksgiving to New Years. January, a new year, what better time to lose those extra pounds. I know it’s winter and the living is cold and slow, but for optimum health and fitness, you should curtail your calorie intake and get active. Cut those calories and get active. Lose those few extra pounds of holiday goodies now before they really become a part of you.

We all eat at the holidays. Albeit, some people more than others, none-the-less we all indulge over the holidays. However, once the holiday is over, we must resume our fitness regime and repair the damage caused by all those delectable holiday goodies.

Yes, I know, everyday should be like Christmas, but that doesn’t mean that everyday we should eat like its Christmas. The real meaning of Christmas is a feeling, a way of viewing the world and our role in it. Special times require special habits. If you have really enjoyed that special time of year, I mean really enjoyed all those delectable, irresistible goodies, then maybe it’s time to get back on track. Maybe the Nordic Track.

Just heard on the TV this morning that the newest drug to be on the danger list is Aleve. They say that people who take Aleve have a higher probability of suffering from heart problems and/or stroke. The jury is still out, but it looks like Aleve may be the next drug to potentially cause more harm than good.

That’s not good news for me. I use Aleve when I need it. I rave about it. Now, I guess I’ll go back to Bayer aspirin. I don’t really take Aleve or Aspirin much, but when I need it, one tablet usually does the trick. It’s getting to the point that one doesn’t know what medication to trust. It seems like every type of medication has some ill affect on some people. I guess that’s what they call side-affects.

Now, a couple of days later, I read an article saying that doctors are saying that the attack on Aleve may be premature. More research is needed. What's a person to do?

How does one stay healthy in this the flu and cold season? Especially since most of us are not in the vulnerable, at risk medical groups for the flu shot. The answer is easy. First eat healthy and exercise. Stay away from people who are sick. If you know that someone has a cold or the flu, then stay away from them. If you are the person with the cold or flu, then you stay home alone. If possible, don't go to work, that's have you have sick time. The flu and the cold are transmitted by germs from a sneeze, cough, touching ones nose or month with a contaminated hand or finger, etc. Wash your hands regularly. Or you could go to a deserted tropical island for a few months. I opt for the island.
