May with all her flowers is upon us. May is the month of our heavenly Mother, "the blessed and beautiful days". Click on the following link to view one of my May websites dedicated to the Blessed Mother, May is the Month of Our Mother This newsletter may be unusually short. Time has away of passing me by. I continue to say that my present job is interfering with my life. I know that statement must sound absurd, but it's true. The days pass too fast, weekends as well as weekdays. I yearn for the time when I can stay up or I should say stay awake until 10:00 p.m. On the week days I usually fall asleep 9:00 - 9:30, not to arise till 5:00 a.m., ready to start preparing myself for my work day. I dream of the days when I can get up anytime and go to sleep anytime. Those will be the days my friend. However, I'm not relying too much on the premise that those days will be near perfect. They won't be perfect, they will be what they will be. Spring break was a little disappointing this year. Oh, the thought of 10 days off was delightful, but the reality was not up to the anticipation. Monday night of spring break I felt a little tickle in my throat. You guessed it, on Tuesday morning I awoke with a major head cold. I remembered seeing a cold remedy product at Target some weeks ago, so after I went out for breakfast I made a mad dash to my favorite Target store. I picked up a product called Zicam. It actually cut the length of my cold in half. The literature said that it worked on the cold not the cold symptoms. And it worked. Tuesday and Wednesday I felt terrible. By Thursday I was better, Friday practically back to normal (normal for me) and by Saturday I was over the cold. It's very important to start the medication as soon as you feel those first symptoms of a cold and follow the directions verbatim. Patti told me that Jon had taken the same product when he had his cold and it helped significantly. I used the lozenges and then the nasal swabs. I recommend the swabs; however, both worked well. All's well that ends well. I'm just a little superstitious. That's why I'm a little leery of making statements that imply everything will be perfect at one time or another in the future. I guess one must take one day at a time no matter what the circumstance or situation. One date that I neglected to mention in the April 2004 Newsletter was the day that Lucy died, April 26, 1989. I Love Lucy and She Loves Me. Don't ask me how I could have overlooked the anniversary of Lucy's death. By the way, Lucy was a Roman Catholic. "I love Lucy and she loves me, we're as happy as two as can be. We have our quarrels but then, oh, how we love making up again..." Don't miss I Love Lucy on TVLand many times throughout the week. Congratulations to Patrick M. on his first Holy Communion. What a joyous day for all of us on May 2. My little nephew receives the body and blood or our Savior. Congratulations Patrick. May you always remember the significance of this day throughout your entire life. May you always experience the awe associated in the reception of this first communion. By receiving Holy communion you not only share in the spiritual life of God, but you share with all of us in the spiritual life of all God's children. May you keep your childlike innocence and your childlike faith all the days of your life. |

Entertainment Secret Window Great movie. An excellent job by Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp logged a stellar presentation in this movie. He is such a versatile actor. I never cared much for him, but I'm starting to appreciate is work. Taking Lives Ethan Hawke and Angelina Jolie were the main characters. Half way through the movie I figured out who was the person who had been taking the lives. It wasn't very hard to figure out the plot and the killer. Good movie. The Punisher Another Marvel comic book on the big screen. A very violent movie, almost as violent as The Passion of the Christ. I had to turn my eyes away from the screen several times. John Travolta gave a good presentation. It's hard to imagine that this is the same Travolta from the 70's Grease. Thomas Jane is cast in the starring role, a new face for me. As you would expect, the acting seemed a little overdone in parts, but exciting. TVLand is showing documentary type presentations of the TV Moguls or the 50's and 60's. Of course the lady who TIME Magazine named the person who had the most influence in the entertainment world in the 20th century, Lucille Ball was a main player in the documentary. Desi Arnaz, Danny Thomas, Andy Griffith and Sheldon Leonard were other people who had significant roles in the shaping of American TV. The program is being replayed and replayed many, many times during the next few weeks if not months. If you know me, then you know that I first got a VCR in 1989. At that time I taped many of the 50's and 60's TV shows from Nick at Night - Lucy, Dick Van Dyke, Andy Griffin, Danny Thomas, Mary Tyler Moore, etc., etc. Also, I taped most of the documentaries on public TV as well as regular network TV of President Kennedy. So, when I get old and if I'm on life support, just play my old tapes for me and I'll be happy. I figured when I get old or if I'm confined to bed I will pass the time watching my old video tapes. If I run out of videos, I can borrow Patrick's Seinfeld videos. |

What is going on with our American youth? Why are so many of them obese? Back when I was a kid, most kids were fit. They were active and in shape. Of course I was always chubby. I was so embarrassed to have to get "husky" sized clothes when I was growing up. It wasn't till I was 25 years old that I realized the importance of weight control and exercise. But I digress. Times have changed. Kids are more sedentary these days. They watch more TV and use the computer, both are low in the physical activity department. What gets me, so many young girls these days try to wear the popular fashions, the Brittany Spears look, and they are not able to pull it off. Whatever happened to dressing in fashion that accentuates ones fine points. In other words it's not the clothes rather it's the person in the clothes that make an outfit appropriate. Whatever happened to dressing in the types of clothes that make YOU, the unique person, look the most flattering? Let's get these young people in touch with the basics in health and fitness - healthy eating and exercise. A newspaper article I was reading said that the primary reason for young adult obesity can be attributed to drinking soda. I don't know about that statement. What about all the fast food and potato chips? Junk food in general. |

I wonder who I am supporting in the 2004 presidential race? Could it be Senator Kerry? As you can tell by my website, Kerry is definitely my choice for president in 2004. Truthfully, Senator Kerry is not such a great man in my eyes, but he sure surpasses the current president. Anyone but Bush. That's it for now. Pennsylvania Republicans, please support liberal Republican Arlen Spector for the United States Senate in the Pennsylvania Republican primary. By the release of this newsletter, the Republican primary voters will have chosen their senatorial candidate. We need Senator Spector in order to balance the conservative Republican party. There's nothing wrong with the Republicans, as long as they are not narrow minded, self-righteous and right wing fanatics. The same is true for the left wing, flaming liberal Democrats. Moderation, respect for all people and equal, bias free decisions should be the objectives of all politicians. No one person has the "correct" answer to every human situation. A true American hero, Pat Tillman, former football player, killed in Afghanistan...see story. |

What's up with the Vatican and it's stand against American politicians who support a woman's right to choice? Whatever happened to the separation of Church and State? No rational thinking person supports murder, but no rational person should deny a woman's control over her own body, even the Vatican. Unless the Pope speaks infallibly concerning a woman's right to choice, the discussion is open to interpretation. The Pope has not spoken infallibly concerning a woman's right to choice. For a discussion of papal infallibility see Newsletter September 2003. Are the Pope and the Vatican right wing conservatives? Is President George W. Bush a closet Roman Catholic? It is becoming clearer and clearer that the Vatican and the Republican conservative right wing are becoming interchangeable in regards to some issues and the power thing. There motto is: it's my way or the highway. I believe that it is God's way or the highway, but how do we know God's way? Yes, the church is an advisor in such manners, but in the end it is up to the individual to choose the correct and appropriate pathway for himself or herself. How can a cardinal, bishop or priest tell us that a woman does not have the right of choice? Many of them are so messed up in their own life situation, as many of us, to even be objective in dealing with the situation of other people. Jesus brought the new covenant, a covenant of love not condemnation. "Love one another as I have loved you", that was Jesus' command. How can condemnation and self-righteousness be following God's law. |

Tech Talk I saw on the news and read in the paper that President Bush hopes to have each American home wired for broadband, fast Internet access by 2007. A lofty goal and one that may seem a little trivial when one observes the turmoil in the world and the economic mess in the United States. However, this goes to show you that fast Internet access is here to stay. Right now most homes access the Internet by dial-up. In a few short years, fast broadband access will be the norm. Broadband Internet access should not be the only goal. Rather intelligent and practical Internet use should be a more important goal. Right now the Internet is like the wild west use to be. Wide open space with many opportunities for the brave of heart and with just as many potential dangers to the inexperienced traveler. Intelligent, competent use of the Internet is important for the user and the Internet to reach their potentials. The information highway needs to be tamed. Information needs to be compiled in an ordered manner. Junk like spam, inappropriate advertisements and illicit subject matter should be banned from the information highway. At least web sites containing such material should be available for download only if the viewer is warned about the material on the site before he or she actually visits the site. The user should be able to navigate down the information highway in a planned, realistic and uncomplicated manner. The journey should be a pleasure, not an overwhelming undertaking. Internet users have a responsibility in the development of this great body of information. The user must educate himself or herself in the ways of the Internet. They must become competent computer users. Learn about the operation of the computer. Just as one must become aware of the operation of any piece of equipment they use, they need to be aware of the good practices in operating a computer. Education, training are needed by the computer users. The Internet users must be savvy in the dangers associated with that trip on the information highway. They must be aware of the fact that every web page they click on does not necessarily contain true, realistic and honest information. Caution must be practiced when connected to the Internet. Don't get involved with unscrupulous webmasters and their web pages. The truly competent and successful Internet surfer must be aware of such things as spam, spy ware, Internet security, firewalls, parental controls and passwords. Internet transaction must be dealt with in the most strict use of confidentiality. A wise Internet user will be aware and put into practice the most safe and confidential method of conducting Internet business. They will choose the safest ways to give and receive valuable personal information over the Internet. Successful, meaningful and efficient computer and Internet use encompasses much more than the type of connection (dial-up or broadband) one employs. Use the Internet, but use it safely.
